As we move into 2024 and the days become longer as winter starts to shiver with the idea of spring coming. It is a time of renewal for me. This is the time when I reflect on where I want to go as the new year moves along.
I believe it is important for a leader to take moments in time to look up and look into the past to reflect on where they want to go into the future. This has always been my time to do just that.
2024 is going to be another interesting year for me. I have a tremendous team, like I seem to always have had in my past. This is the year that I will be enhancing how we track our progress on the various projects. This year we will be looking inward at our internal business processes and pushing to modernize them. In addition to the normal paper hunt, we will be hunting spreadsheets.
Over 30 years ago, I was part of a team wrapping our heads around computers and how they could be used to improve the processes that are needed to run the business. A part of that effort was tracking literally how paper moved throughout the company. There was a little shock from some when we found some paper that actually ended up in the trash bin because nobody needed it. Wasted effort.
Today the paper is less, but the use of spreadsheets instead of the built in tools of our primary business systems have replaced that paper. Another story for another day.
2024 is going to be a good year.
